Item Description
4 1/8x9.5" envelope has a beautifully designed cover with silver foil and an elaborate illustration of Icarus. This envelop is for the 25th Anniversary for the First Airplane Flight on December 17, 1903 in Kitty Hawk, NC. Pillar design on left hand side lists name of aviation pioneers including the Wright Brothers, Byrd, and Lindbergh. Large ink stamp with Kitty Hawk flight design and that of a modern 1928 plane flying overhead is stamped on Icarus design. Orville Wright, along with his brother Wilbur, invented and built the first successful powered airplane. Orville made the world's first flight in this plane on December 17, 1903. Wright has boldly signed in black ink across Icarus design, meeting with ink stamp which does not interfere with signature. Signature remains very bold and vibrant. Back of envelope has text "This is to certify as a member and guest of the International Civil Aeronautics Conference, called by President Calvin Coolidge, to mark the first quarter century of human flight; I accompanied Hon. Orville Wright from Washington, D.C. to Kill Devil Hill, N.C. On the entire pilgrimage I carried this commemorative cover and finally mailed it personally at the place and on the date that is postmarked. (Signed) B.B. Lipsner". Lipsner also signed in green ink on front cover between columns and was the first superintendant to fly air-mail for the US Post Office in 1918. Envelope has been post-marked twice, once December 9, 1928 in Chicago, IL and once again December 17, 1928 in Kitty Hawk, NC. Content of envelope are still sealed. Beautifully designed envelope with very vibrant signature is Exc. Comes with a letter of authenticity from Hake’s.
