Item Description
4 1/8x5" card is mounted on a cardstock scrapbook mounting. Letter has White Star Line flag logo stamped in upper left hand corner. There is also a small chip in upper right-hand corner of scrapbook mount. Letter is dated April 11, 1912, three days before the Titanic would sink, taking with it over 1,500 lives. Letter reads "Dearest Jean, I am on board Titanic, and it is a masterful ship with everything that anyone could dream it to be. I have had a good trip so far and we made it to Queenstown. You can not feel her moving as she is so grand a ship. I hope that the rest of the voyage will be the same with calm seas and weather. I will talk to you soon and extend my warmest love to you and your family. Sincerely, Elizabeth" letter was written by 1st class passenger Ms. Elizabeth Walton Allen, one of the 196 first class survivors. Letter comes with the original White Star Line envelope which bares the same flag logo on envelope flap. Envelope is unaddressed and unused. Letter and envelope have some light aging but are Exc. Letter and envelope come with 3x5.25" photo of the Titanic at the docks in Southampton, England. Photo shows about ship about to disembark. Back of photo has typed information and ink stamp date of April 10, 1912. Photo has some light aging and handling wear but is Exc. Comes with a letter of authenticity from Hake’s.
