Item numbers 1 through 1144 in auction 209
Item Description
4x6" album marked "Autographs" has numerous signatures, including several explorers. Most have signed in either black or blue ink, some in pencil. Most have been signed on separate papers which have been applied to pages in this album. Fifth page has nice 3.5" wide signature of Amelia Earhart, the American aviation pioneer and author who was the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. She received the US Distinguished Flying Cross for this record. During an attempt to make a circumnavigational flight of the globe in 1937 in a Lockheed Model 10 Electra, Earhart disappeared over the central Pacific Ocean near Howland Island. Her disappearance remains a mystery to this day. Other signatures include - Arctic explorer Bob Bartlett, explorer Harry Whitney, Charles Kessler (who accompanied Byrd on his first three North and South Pole expeditions) and Richmond Hobson, a Spanish-American War Medal of Honor recipient and US Navy Rear Admiral/US Representative from Alabama. Covers are Exc. Interior pages show lt. trace of wear/aging and are Exc. overall. Earhart signed her name on pink page in this album and signature remains bold and distinct. Signature could be easily removed if so desired. Earhart signature has been authenticated by JSA and comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
