Item Description
7-1/8x22.75” thin art board for May 11, 1951 has 5x16.25” India ink image area w/four panels. Art is titled in pencil “Dick Tracy-Buttons And Bows” in blank top margin. First three panels have Sam telling the chief about Tracy capturing villain “Empty” and the Chief telling Sam about Tess giving birth in a squad car. Fourth panel has hospital scene w/nurse telling Tess about the baby’s braids, referring to the baby as “Baby Braids”. Third panel has creator “Chester Gould” ink signature and Chicago Tribune copyright sticker. Margins have trace of lt. dust soil and aging, title and image area will mat and frame to Exc. appearance. This is just the fourth daily to show Bonny Braids. Well drawn historic example before she had her proper name.
