Item Description
See Eugster “Felix the Cat” original art #1773. First Al Eugster c. early 1930s card is 4-7/8x7” w/blank front. Inside has profile image of Eugster smoking a cigar w/text. “And A Happy New Year Al Eugster”. Eugster (1909-1997) worked at the Pat Sullivan studio from 1927 to 1931, going on to work at Fleischer, Mintz, Iwerks, Disney, and Paramount studios over a long career. Second Clopton card is self folding, postmarked “Los Angeles Dec 24 1932” hand addressed to Gladys McArthur, possibly a girl in the ink and paint dept. Card opens to 7.5x14” w/great center scene of Clopton in nightshirt, Santa on left, and baby new year on right all saying “Greetings”. Signed w/facsimile signature at bottom. Clopton (1906-1987) went to work at Disney under Ub Iwerks and worked on “Plane Crazy” before moving on w/Harman-Ising to do “Oswald”, then to Schlesinger and Fleischer studios in the late 30s. Third card is 4-5/8x5-5/8” c. 1931 w/nice hand water colored image of Merle Gilson next to open toy sack dressed as Santa wearing three finger Mickey Mouse style glove w/string on little finger holding “Merry Xmas G.M. Gilson” sign. Gilson (1903-1989) Began at Disney in 1930, then moved on to Walter Lantz throughout the 1930s. All cards are Exc. Extremely limited distribution, just sent to family and friends. Great for framing.
