8x10" original glossy photo c. 1945. Seated around a row of tables in a banquet room are 21 men, all in suits. Each has been identified by inked name above their image and done at the time the photo was printed. Most are Negro League baseball players, several are "Fans" as identified by the accompanying text sheet as procured by Richard Merkin. The highlight of the photo is HOF member Satchel Paige who is seated third in the left row. The other players are Chico Renfroe, Jesse Williams, Buster Haywood, Piper Davis, Herb Souell, Clyde Nelson, Jesse "Mountain" Hubbard, Frank "Groundhog" Thompson, Jimmy Newberry, Theolic Smith, Lloyd "Pepper" Bassett, Hallie Harding, Wild Bill Wright and Chet Brewer. Of interesting note, Haywood was Hank Aaron's first manager in professional baseball and Davis was Willie Mays' manager when he played for the Black Barons. Photo has obvious margin wear w/small corner tips missing. Few margin pinholes and handling wear w/crease but most only visible in reflected light. Photo remains glossy and images are distinct.
