Item Description
Original release 27x41" one-sheet movie poster for the classic 1951 20th Century Fox film directed by Robert Wise and starring Michael Rennie as Klaatu, Patricia Neal, Billy Gray, Hugh Marlowe, Sam Jaffe and Lock Martin as Klaatu's robot companion Gort. The classic film tells the story of how a humanoid alien visitor comes to Earth (accompanied by a powerful robot) to deliver a message of utmost importance to humanity. Poster is dominated by large image of Gort carrying woman and firing beam from his visor at the many soldiers and tanks that are firing on him. Washington DC landmarks the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument are seen in the bkg. The middle bkg. of the poster has an image of the Earth being grabbed by a large hand. Poster has been folded as issued and shows wear along fold lines. Margins has a few small pieces of tape and mid-left margin has .5x1.25" piece reattached. These margin issues could be easily matted out. Pinholes/wear at corners, each has 2" piece replaced, but o/w poster has no other touch-ups or restoration. Fine. Widely considered one of the great sci-fi films of the 1950s, "The Day The Earth Stood Still" is a precursor of what was to come for the sci-fi film genre in the decades that followed. Among the most sought after movie posters of this genre.
