Item Description
Vintage 8x10" publicity photo shows Buffalo Bob Smith w/early version of Howdy Doody puppet, what was known as "Ugly Doody" according to enclosed postcard written by Smith. Photo has been signed in black ink by Smith, who has inscribed photo to his sister, writing "To My God-Mother Aunt Esther - Howdy Doody" in shaky hand and "Hi Essie! That's Me With The Hat. Rob" w/arrow drawn to Smith's image. Photo shows Smith at desk w/Howdy Doody puppet and several cards in bkg. marked "5," indicating the pair promoting that the show would be airing five times a week instead of three. Photo has moderate handling wear w/creases, but if framed would display VF. Photo comes w/8.5x11" single-sided page of "It's Howdy Doody Time" sheet music containing Smith's handwritten lyrics to the iconic TV tune. Handwritten note at top reads "Especially For Esther E. Smith" w/additional handwritten note at bottom reading "Home Made Music Inc. - Doodyville, U.S.A." Exc. Comes w/modern 4x5.25" bw photo postcard showing Smith w/Howdy Doody. Postcard has been postmarked June 24, 1998 and has been filled out in black ink by Smith, noting the importance of the aforementioned photo. Postcard has been signed "Bob" and is Exc. Unique lot. Comes with Hake's COA.
