8.25x11.5" Aug. 16, 1954 Vol 1 #1 issue of weekly sports magazine w/146 pages. Front cover has color photo of night action scene w/batter Ed Mathews in home game at Milwaukee Stadium. Contents include "The Battle Of The Bubblegum" complete w/three-panel fold-out which opens to 11.5x23.5" and pictures 27 example cards from the Topps Gum 250 card set of 1954. Back of each card is also printed exactly like actual card. Players shown include Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays, Duke Snider, Ted Williams, Larry Doby, Gil Hodges. Issue also features nice color photos of Rocky Marciano boxing Ezzard Charles. Front cover has 5.75" hairline publication ripple which is barely noticeable, o/w magazine is NM. Comes in nice quality 10x12.5" leather "Sports Illustrated" presentation folder as it was issued as part of a limited edition from 1994 and includes COA dated Jan. 28, 1994 attesting that this is not a copy or reprint, but one of the original 600,000 print run. Magazine is in protective plastic sleeve which rests in leather pouch. Historic sports publication.
