Item Description
9" tall glazed ceramic "Defender" Sailor Brownie candlestick holder w/hole at top of hat to hold candle. Unmarked w/exception of incised number "2872-74" underneath base. c. 1890s. Has incised "Defender" name on sailor cap brim. Nice incised anchor details on collar lapels. Scattered traces of candle wax from use. Left arm has three pinpoint glaze flakes at elbow as well as tiny nick, though these are only noticeable upon close inspection. Candle holder hole has trace of wear to edge of rim but overall piece still displays NM.
