Item Description
2.25x3.5x.75" deep. This 1880 campaign tobacco container features a 1-7/8" disc attached on the inside lid on which four images are printed. Images can be changed by turning the disc on the inside of the lid. Illustration on lid shows a man on either side of oval opening wearing top hat w/text above reading "The Next President." Very tiny text below oval reads "That Is So - No Sir" indicating the men are discussing who will be the next president. Text also includes "P. Lorillard & Co." Bottom of tin has factory illustration and text including "Manufactory No. 10 - Jersey City - 5th District N.J." Paint on exterior has craze lines showing when viewed closely, but they do not reveal base metal. A few scattered pinpoints of paint off w/.5x.75" area of paint off w/oxidation at upper right of lid. Four images have tanned w/age but show minimum wear to images themselves, though margins have some aging. One of the first mechanical campaign items.
