Item Description
9.25x11.75x1" deep hinged fabric covered box with gold luster text and futuristic logo on front "The Photographic Album Edition." Box end reads "One World." Light wear. Box contains 220 page hardbound book with original transparent dust jacket. 1x1.5" piece of jacket missing at top spine. Book cover has illustration of the earth in the foreground with planets and galaxy behind. After Willkie lost to Roosevelt in 1940 FDR found him compatible politically with his plans and brought him aboard as an informal ambassador at large. Willkie crisscrossed the globe on the former Army bomber "The Gulliver", bringing home a vision of "One World" freed from imperialism and colonialism. He wrote "One World", a best selling account of his travels in meetings with the allied heads of state, as well as ordinary citizens and soldiers in regions such as Russia and Iran. Title page includes "The Faces & Places That Willkie Saw/The Limited Editions Club/New York 1944." Extensive photographic and text accounts of his travels. The numbered and signed back page reads "Of This Edition Of One World/Fifteen Hundred Copies Have Been Made/For the Members Of/The Limited Editions Club/By The American Book-Stratford/ The Edition Having Been Designed By George Macy/This Copy Is Number/1458 (hand written)/And Is Signed By The Author:/(signed Wendell Willkie)."
