Item Description
Both feature original pen and ink art on thin artboards w/four panels each, complete w/Chicago Tribune copyright pasted strips. Each has 5.75x19.75" image area. First is for July 5, 1929. Winnie is in "Bibb's Pins" office getting ready to go to dinner while her date is distracted, picking up loose pins for good luck. Last panel is inscribed to fellow cartoonist in ink "To My Friend Ving Fuller - Yours Till The Pope Turns Protestant. Branner." Image area lightly aged, o/w Exc. Second daily is from Nov. 8, 1930 and titled "Advice To The Wealthy" w/Winnie winning $500 in a typing contest and salesman suggesting she put it under her pillow to "Have Something To Fall Back On," causing Winnie to throw her typewriter at him. Boldly signed by Branner in last panel. Exc. Fuller was an animator for the Bray Studio and went on to greater fame w/the "Doc Syke" comic strip. Prime examples of Branner's work on "Winnie Winkle," the first to revolve around a woman w/her own career. From the Jan Wahl Collection.
