Auction #210 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1270 in auction 210
Item Description
Oval portrait, resembling the look of a steel engraving on paper under glass with a raised beveled edge in an oval frame that tests as 10K gold. There is a fine rope border missing an 1/8" segment at the bottom. Frame is 3/8" wide by .5" tall. Reverse has hinge holding 1" tall moveable straight pin. Very slight, near microscopic, metal loss from upper left side of the tube-like hinge which holds a thin, short, horizontal pin from which the vertical pin is suspended. The horizontal pin is somewhat loose but remains in position with normal handling. Likely from 1832 centennial of his birth, but given the materials and construction it could also be earlier. Our research has not located any other examples. A small but high quality and very early Washington pin.
