Auction #210 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1270 in auction 210
Item Description
A solar eclipse May 28, 1900 was fresh in the mind of button makers when the Democrats and Republicans nominated their candidates. A number of different designs were produced including this one which reads on top edge “Partial Eclipse” with real photo below with McKinley overlapping a smaller real photo of Bryan and concluding the text with slogan “Will Be Total In November.” Reverse has fixed horizontal pin and back paper of Indianapolis Photo Button Mfg. Co. There are quite a few hairline scratches on the McKinley portrait but they are exceedingly light and are just barely visible in reflected light. Under nearly all viewing circumstances the button displays Mint as made with no fading, no spotting, total gloss, and perfect centering. Hake #68 with 2004 guide value of $2,025.00. Sen. Charles Dick Collection.
