Auction #210 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1270 in auction 210
Item Description
Unlisted in Hake, but this 1.25" with W&H back paper is a mate to Hake Bryan #3245 with 2004 value of $2,900.00. The design features a photo of McKinley's head but all the rest is artwork including the bicycling cap he wears. The front wheel of the bike is inscribed in gold "Gold" and rear wheel of the bike is inscribed in gold "Silver." Bottom edge reads "Pat Aug. 11, 1896." There are three tiny 1/16" or less very faint age marks on the extreme rim edge, a very faint dot left of his mouth, and same above rear wheel. In reflected light, five light scratches averaging .25" are on the left background and a lightly scuffed area on the right next to his coat but with very shallow lines. Under magnification, there are about 20 tiny marks, around 1/16", either scratches or tiny craze lines in the transparent celluloid covering on the background areas. Other than the few faint age dots, the other marks show little or not at all with normal viewing. A rare button that displays beautifully and is seldom available. The only auction result we could locate was a 2006 example from the Loewenstern Collection with a significant reverse celluloid split and a realized price of $1,553.50. Only a few examples known. Julie Powell Collection.
