Auction #210 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1270 in auction 210
Item Description
2.5x4x7/8" thick. Clear photo but with brown stain on the woman's dress from the waist down. Underside has applied paper with two long paragraphs of text. Couple of small surface flakes off but over 90% complete. Paper is titled "See The Hatched That Waked A Nation From Its Drunken Sleep." Smaller text goes on to explain that this was Carry's first hatchet "Used In Her Liquor Crusade Smashing James Burns Saloon At 410 East Douglas And Herrig & Taylor Saloon At 420 East Douglas, At Wichita Kansas, January 21, 1901." Second paragraph gives a history of the hatchet from its display at the local police station to the presentation of it to the woman shown on this paperweight who was known as Carry's Lieutenant. Paper label ends with "Copyrighted By Myra McHenry 1925." No chips or cracks in the glass. Overall VG and the only example we've seen.
