Item Description
c. 1920s. First is a tin working miniature scale 2.5" long and 5/8" tall. Scale platform in unpainted tin and base is painted w/product box and verse "In Checkertown They Use These Scales For Weighing Puppy Dogs and Whales." Silver flashing off the platform but rest is NM. Second is litho tin replica of product box 1-3/8" long, .5" tall and .25" thick. Reads "Shotwell's Prize Checkers Pop Corn Confection" on each side. One box end is open and we do not know if ever covered, no indication it ever was. Opposite end is covered but the side edge is so narrow the tin cover easily pops off. It can be replaced to stay in position but won't stand much handling. Cover has air hole and brass luster extension tube to create a whistle. If a finger is placed over the open end of the box bottom, the whistle functions well and pitch can be varied. Moderate paint wear but mostly intact and Fine. Both are rare prizes and first we've offered in our 47 years.
