Item Description
Each is 11.25x16” w/16 pages including engravings on front covers, centerfolds, and four other pages w/cartoons on back covers. 1861 dates are: April 20, June 15, Sept. 21, Nov. 2, Nov. 9. 1862 dates are Feb. 1, May 10, July 6, Aug. 2, Aug. 9, Aug. 16, Aug. 30. Images include: capture of secessionist prisoner, cavalry charge through Fairfax Court House, cavalry surrender to Col. Wilcox, Fort Hatteras bombardment, Merrimac, Ky. war scenes, Mississippi River war map, slaves cutting Vicksburg canal, McClellan at headquarters. Nov. 9, 1861 issue has large quad fold “Southern States” supplement map inc. corner images of Lincoln, Seward, Scott, and McClellan. A few issues have art by Thomas Nast. Issues were removed from bound volumes and have some spine edge wear inc. small edge tears. A few pages are totally loose, but issues are complete w/Fine/VF image areas. An instant collection reporting history as it was being made.
