Item Description
4.5x7.25x8.5" tall toy consists of jointed Steiff Mickey Mouse figure attached to a four-wheel Irish mail which has heavy wire frame, wood seat and wheels. This toy is shown on page 51 of Disneyana by Munsey as part of a 1932 Borgfeldt & Co. advertisement. Mickey is complete w/"Steiff" metal button and tag in his left ear and cardboard Steiff tag on chest. Complete w/original string whiskers, oilcloth eyes (w/slight curl to one) and pull string. Toy works and as Mickey's hands are attached to the handle, it appears as if he is pumping this to move the Irish mail forward as his body goes up and down. The seat has a bellows mechanism below it and although complete, toy no longer squeaks. The treads of the wood wheels have slight trace of paint wear. Mickey figure has slightest aging w/slight fade to pants but is o/w clean and VF/Exc. and as nice as they come. Among the rarest and most desirable of all Disney Steiffs. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
