Item Description
This is the second of three annual Toleteros card sets issued during the Puerto Rican League winter seasons, the follow-up to previous item #1131. The album is 8.5x11" with stiff paper cover and 11 pages that have designated areas for mounting the set of 216 cards. Album contains near set of 197 cards, all neatly mounted at appropriate spots (a list of 19 missing cards is at the end of this description) . Each card is 1.5x2.25" w/bw photo and player name on bottom margin. The true highlight of this set (as w/the previous year as well) and included in the album, is Hilton Smith. This card alone is listed in the Standard Catalog Of Vintage Baseball Cards with values of $12,000 NM, $6,000 EX, $3,600 VG. Other key cards included in this album are: Sammy Bankhead, Chester Brewer, Willard Brown, Perucho Cepeda, Francisco Coimbre, Lucius Easter, Wilmer Fields, George Scales, Dick Seay, Quincy Trouppe. The Hilton Smith card has some lt. staining but image remains strong. Overall condition as mounted varies, some cards show bit more wear/aging while others are very bright and clean. Visually cards grade from Good to Exc. Album is missing the Leon Day card (see item #1133). It is also missing the last page that had 18 cards mounted to the front of the sheet, back of sheet was "Rules" page for using the cards in a game.  Album has obvious wear/aging to cover and pages. Cover is loose and has spine splits, edge flakes, creases and some penciling. Fair. Pages have aging and margin wear but VG overall. While an incomplete album, still a rare and near complete collection with the highly sought after Hilton Smith card. From the Richard Merkin Collection and come with Hake's COA.
Missing cards are: Pablo Andino, Stan Bread (Breard), Leon Day, Faelo Gonzales, Vic Harris, Angel Hernandez, Cecyl Kayser, Cirico Machuca, Jim Markland, Leo Marquez, Gilberto Marrero, George McQuillen, Henry Miller, Earl Naylor, Miguel Payano, Bienvenido Rodriguez, Carmelo Torres, Curley Williams, and Marvin Williams.
All other cards (197 in total) are present and match the list found in the Standard Catalog Of Vintage Baseball Cards.
