Item Description
8.5x11" typed letter to "Li'l Abner" creator Al Capp dated July 18, 1947 from Jerry Siegel. Letter mentions Siegel's and Joe Shuster's lawsuit against National Comics Publications, Inc. claiming rights to Superman and Superboy (their lawsuit wouldn’t get partially settled until the mid-1970s). Siegel gives some advice and thanks to Capp regarding "Li'l Abner" reprints and mentions that Superman's "income" is available should he need it in regards to Capp's lawsuit against United Feature Syndicate. Partial text reads "My Best Wishes For Success In Your Current Scrap Go To You, And May I Congratulate You Upon Having Enough Guts To Stick Out Your Chin And Fight For Your Rights. -- How Kin UF Win Wif Li'l Abner, Mammy Yokum, Pappy Yokum, An' Al Capp A'pilin' Onta 'Em? An' If They Sics Th' Scraggs On Ya, Just Bowl 'Em Over Wif A Squirt O' Kickapoo Juice!" Letter is signed "Cordially Jerry Siegel" w/his first name signed in pencil. Sheet has file holes at top w/paper clip oxidation at upper left as stored in Capp's files. Red pencil notation at upper left. Folded as mailed. VF. Comes with Hake's COA.
