Item Description
This small series of Mickey and Minnie metal figures were combined w/other metal parts to produce useful objects such as ashtrays, playing card counters and banks. These early 1930s German-made pieces are all scarce and considered to be among the finest three-dimensional metal Mickey Mouse figures ever produced. This example has a 2x6" metal base designed like a Persian rug w/reservoir built to house glass cube w/recessed top for storing cigarettes as well as attached tin matchbox holder. 3.5" tall full body Mickey figure w/blue pants and yellow buttons stands at left, w/raised and painted "Mickey Mouse - © Walt E. Disney" lettering on the sides of his pants. The main body and head are white metal while the legs, arms and tail are heavy metal rods w/arms bent into expressive positions and the long metal tail curving down. Paint on figure shows moderate wear w/scattered areas of flaking, about 85% remaining. Fine overall. Rare and the first we've offered of this piece in our 48 years. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
