Item Description
9.75x11.5x2.5" deep wooden box w/sliding lid w/paper label and paper label insert applied. Produced by McLoughlin Bros. (same manufacturer as Brownie Blocks, see item #1761), 1890s. Set consists of 30 wooden blocks w/illustrated panels on each side that could be used to form scenes from Daniel Defoe's popular novel "Robinson Crusoe," first published in 1719. Scenes include Robinson Crusoe w/native, looking at beach as well as four other scenes from the classic book that include - Crusoe making an umbrella, hunting w/lamb, in hut w/native serving him and dislodging boat w/native. Set comes w/five 9x10.75" full color sheets showing these images as guides. Sheets show moderate aging/wear w/corner tip wear, small margin tears, etc. Fine overall. Blocks shows wear at edges of paper labels from use w/some corner rounding, but remain nice for display. Fine/VF overall. Box remains tight and lid's label insert features image of Crusoe looking at footprints on the beach. Label and insert have even moderate aging and insert has .25x.5" piece missing from top margin, o/w Fine. Box is Fine/VF overall. Complete and rare.
