Item Description
9x12" 8-page song folio for "The Candy Man" song that originally appeared in the 1971 film "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory." It was written by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley specifically for the film and was sung by Aubrey Woods, who played Bill the candy store owner in the film. The song is best known through Sammy Davis, Jr.'s cover version, which hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on June 10, 1972, spending three weeks there, as well as two weeks at number one on the easy listening chart. It is recognized as one of Davis's signature songs, and "The Candy Man" came to be his moniker later in his career. This song folio notes "Recorded By Sammy Davis, Jr. On MGM Records" and has been boldly signed in black felt tip pen by Davis, who adds "All My Best" inscription. Folio cover features movie poster imagery and back cover has tiny image of Willy Wonka (as portrayed by Gene Wilder) beside giant Wonka Bar. Cover has some pinch creases to spine and some minor scattered age spotting. VF overall w/Exc. signature area. First example we've seen signed by Davis. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA COA.
