Item Description
4x7x.25" thick wooden frames contain 3.25" dia. glass slides w/hand-tinted images depicting young girl w/Punch doll from Punch & Judy (see Punch & Judy musical tape measure, #1512). Bottom edges of slide have paper labels, noting "Class XXVII Dissolving Views." One slide show smiling girl and is labeled as "Joy" while the other shows same girl in tears, the large nose of Punch having broken off in her hand. This slide is labeled "Sorrow." Very early, these slides were produced in the mid 1800s and used in theaters of the day. "Sorrow" slide has .5" crack to wooden frame at bottom center. Both glass portions have wear to tinted areas in the form of bubbling, but images remain distinct. Fine overall.
