Item Description
Each of these pieces came to Hake's about 20 years ago from the estate of Arthur Sohmer. He was Agnew's Chief of Staff in the Nixon-Agnew White House and with Agnew since his first successful election to office in Maryland as Baltimore County Executive. Three items are from that era in 1962 and reference the County Executive Office. These are a hand-out card with photo, a mail-in (unused) postal card to volunteer, and a 6" steel ruler. Next is Agnew's c.1965 Governor of Maryland Business Card. The remaining seven items are c.1969-1973. First are three boxed Agnew as V.P. give-away items although one does not carry his name. This is a marble like 2x2x.75" paperweight with mounted enamel paint V.P. Seal. Tiny speck off one corner. The bronze medal and the key fob have facsimile signature on reverse. Next is 1" long "Agnew/149" enamel bar with two needle post and clutches on reverse. Next is 2.5" tall convex fairly heavy star badge reading "Marshal Dodge City" with "Agnew" hand engraved at center. Next is 3.5" "Spiro Is My Hero" button with cardboard tag on back. "A Salute To Mr. Agnew/Miss Coliseum May 18, 1971." Couple short hairline scratches only in reflected light. Last is 3" button showing Agnew with John Lindsay and the text "The Dream Team 1776?" with the implication this might be the 1976 ticket. Didn't happen. All items NM to Mint except as noted.
