Item Description
Lot of three. First two are 8.5x11", third is 10x14". All with one or two old fold lines and minor handling creases. Each is Fine overall. First handbill was produced a few days after Fred Hampton's murder by Chicago police and issued in N.Y.C. by "Youth Against War & Fascism." Issued to promote demonstration 12/9/69 at Waldorf Hotel with headline of "Nixon Is Coming To N.Y./Demonstrate." Headlines at top include: "Avenge Fred Hampton/Stop The Persecution Of The Black Panther Party/Me Lai To Chicago & Los Angeles" with text detailing the Chicago police attack December 4 and another in L.A. on Mon. Dec. 8, the day this handbill was created. Second is for April 4, 1970 Central Park Protest headlined "Free The Panther 21!" and naming speakers: "Afeni Shakur, David Hilliard, William Kunstler, Abbie Hoffman. Third is for November 22, 1970 protest in New Haven naming sponsors "Women's Liberation" in NYC and "The Connecticut Panther Defense Fund" in New Haven. Text lists names of seven female Black Panther Party members being held in Niantic State Prison Farm. Treatment of the women, three of them pregnant, is detailed and the reason for the call for a massive demonstration. Only three examples in the Marshall Levin Collection. Comes with Hake's COA.
