Item Description
1" listed as DeWitt 1876-20. DeWitt notes this piece was made in five different colors by the Celluloid Company Of Newark, New Jersey. As far as we know, the celluloid tokens from the 1876 campaign are the earliest use of the material for campaign purposes. The item includes Ford's notated paper envelope and labeled plastic holder from Stacks Bowers auction Sept. 19-20, 2013. The item was formerly in the collections of F.C.C. Boyd and Wayte Raymond prior to Ford. This example has been encapsulated and graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation. The label assigns a grade of "MS 65" and specifies "Ex. John J. Ford Jr." Essentially Mint.
