Item Description
5-5/8x8.25" first edition published by Duell, Sloan & Pearce, Inc. in 1948. Novel was written by Joseph Mitchell, an American writer best known for the work he published in "The New Yorker." He is known for his carefully written portraits of eccentrics and people on the fringes of society, especially in and around New York City. "Old Mr. Flood" is Mitchell's story of Hugh G. Flood, a New Yorker determined to live to the age of 115 on a diet of fresh seafood, harbor air, and good Scotch. Mitchell created an unforgettable character in these stories of fish-eating, whiskey, death, and rebirth by combining aspects of several men who worked at or frequented Manhattan's famed Fulton Fish Market along the East River. Inside endpapers has been signed by Mitchell in blue ink. Comes w/original dust jacket, which features an illustration of the fish market by Immerman. DJ is free of any clips but has some margin aging/wear w/small tears and tiny pieces missing at top and bottom of spine. Front bottom edge has a .25" chip, but is complete and o/w Fine. Book itself is o/w clean and in choice, Exc. condition. Comes with Hake's COA.
