Auction #184 - Part II
Item numbers 953 through 2651 in auction 184
Item Description
In its early days, the title was one of DC’s greatest anthologies. Over the years the book had played host to many different science fiction stories, but it never had a permanent feature. With this issue, that all changed. The Doom Patrol, (who, in the previous issue, were touted as the Legion of Strange), starts its long run in the DC Universe. They are often compared to another team of mutants who are led by a wheelchair-bound genius, the X-Men. Both teams actually debuted so close together that for one company to actually copy each other is highly unlikely. In addition, while they may have argued and occasionally behaved like teenagers, the Doom Patrol was much closer to adulthood than the X-Men. The team in a new configuration is still going strong today. This issue contains the first appearance of Elasti-Girl, Negative Man, and the Silver-Age Robotman. This issue also contains the origin of the team. The book features the work of the team’s co-creators Arnold Drake and Bob Haney. Bruno Premiani did the cover and interior art. The pages are cream to off-white. This unrestored book is CGC-certified 8.0 (VF).
