Auction #211 - Part I
Item numbers 1 through 1196 in auction 211
Item Description
These are each about 7/8" with the first two items being pin-back buttons and the rest being lapel studs. The group starts off with "Wm. S. Linton." First of these reads "For President" but he was a real dark horse and his second item in this group reads "For Member Of Congress" which after being elected twice from Michigan's eighth congressional district in 1892 and 1894 he lost his 1896 effort. Next two items are identical and picture "Gov. Levi P. Morton." He received 58 votes on the ballot. The next four items are for Matthew Quay. Two of these read "For President" and the other two have no text with one of them being his image on mother of pearl. He received 61.5 votes on the ballot. Next two items depict Thomas Reed, one with his name and one without that has very faint rim marks. He received 84.5 votes on the ballot. Last, although low contrast, has real photo picture with text reading "For Vice President '96 D. Russell Brown." He was a VP hopeful candidate from Rhode Island. Text can still be read on close inspection. Except as noted items are in Exc. to Mint condition. See many following 1896 hopeful items for both parties.
