Item numbers 1 through 1196 in auction 211
Item Description
First is 7/8" button by American Artworks showing a red "District School" building with text on the roof "Stand By It" and rim text reading "Read The Menace" a reference to a Klan-related publication from Indiana. Button has some faint hairlines in reflected light but has wonderful color and displays Mint. Second is a 6" tall cardboard ink blotter which had this button pinned to it. This piece was used in Hake's home town of York, Pa. and has text including "Stick By The Red School House By Sticking The Original Sticker Where Its Enemies Can See It." Blotter has overall wear including 1.5" diameter dark tan spot and small creases. The sticker referenced is included in this lot and is 2-3/8" wide repeating the school house illustration. Complete with original gum on reverse. Last is a 3.5" wide snapshot of marching uniformed Klan members. The women lead the front of the parade holding a large American flag while the men are behind.
