Item Description
4" dia. solid orange calcite sphere w/four enameled gold metal stars attached, one of seven commissioned as part of a FUNimation Entertainment's (the market share leader for home video sales of Japanese animation in the US) "The Biggest, Baddest Dragon Ball Z Giveaway On Earth" contest that ran in 2006, centered around the vastly popular "Dragon Ball Z" anime. There were a number of prizes, but the seven finalists for the grand prize would each receive an actual Dragonball as part of the prize package. In the anime, the Dragonballs are perhaps the most valuable/pertinent items in that world, a symbol of strength and victory, w/an extremely high value placed on obtaining them. They have the ability to grant any wish when all seven gathered together, even resurrection. The most significant of the Dragonballs is the 4-star ball, which the series' main character is in possession of. During the series, one of the four stars becomes marred permanently (the item being offered has one star marred to reflect this). The balls were presented to the seven finalists by FUNimation management at the 2006 Dallas Comic-Con. Production of the spheres was difficult, as a number of prior attempts to shape the material had resulted in damage or fracture. The final event occurred at Wizard World Texas where the seven finalists were gathered together, and in true Dragonball Z fashion, one lucky winner got to make a wish for either a new car, a cruise or a trip to Japan, which would be "granted" by FUNimation. NM. Extremely limited, one of only seven produced. Rare.
