Item Description
1.75" with back paper by Brooklyn maker Henry Moss. When the keel of North Carolina was laid October, 1937 at the New York Naval Ship Yard she was the first battleship to be constructed in 16 years. Upon her commissioning April 9, 1941 she was considered the world's greatest sea weapon. She participated in every Naval offensive in the Pacific area and earned 15 battle stars. Her proposed scrapping in 1958 led to a statewide campaign by North Carolina citizens to save the ship and she has been in her Wilmington, North Carolina berth since 1961. Button has two pinpoint color dots near the top and a few very minor surface wear marks only in reflected light. Extremely Fine and displays NM. Rare.
