10.75x15" artboard w/separate paper overlay has original mixed media art depicting the main box lid art for 1975s Pyro Plastics model kit No. 249-349 featuring the Harriet Lane, Revenue Cutter of the United States Revenue Cutter Service and, on the outbreak of the American Civil War, a ship of the Union Navy and later Confederate Navy. Named after the niece of President James Buchanan who acted as First Lady during his presidency, Harriet Lane entered service in 1859 and saw action during the Civil War at Fort Sumter, New Orleans, Galveston, Texas, and Virginia Point and was captured by the Confederates in 1863, whereupon she was converted to a trade ship. She was promptly recaptured by the Union forces, only to later be abandoned at sea in 1881. Art shows the ship w/Fort Sumter in bkg., its cannons blazing. Art is signed by Howard W. Arnold. Large image area takes up entire artboard. Art has some corner tip and some moderate margin wear and is VF but would display NM if matted and framed. Impressive model kit art.
