Item Description
First is 2.5" button with name of maker on curl "Dalo Button & Emblem Co. NYC. NY. 10010." This address matches that appearing on the original art the top page of which has a penciled numeral "12000" perhaps indicating the quantity originally made. The button was issued to promote the "Sunday" edition of the Long Island newspaper "Newsday." Button carries the 1972 copyright of Walt Kelly with the large slogan "Try It/You'll Like It." Button has pinpoint dirt speck to the left of his head but is otherwise Mint as made. The artwork consists of a 7.25x13" tall stiff sheet of cardboard. The top layer is a colored sheet of tissue with a pencil arrow towards the top illustration and with "OK" in a circle. The lower design has been crossed out. The next two layers are sheets of acetate both with registration marks on the borders and with red film over those areas of the design meant to be printed in either red or green. These two layers lift up and then there are a pair of circular cut-out photostats reproducing the art which appears on the front tissue sheet but in a fully finished form. This sheet includes an ink stamp from advertising firm "Gamut Associates" on Long Island with the job number inked in "8367." Light tanning on the very bottom edge of the board and a few other general handling tiny marks as this was production art. A scarce button with unique art.
