Item Description
Large and impressive 30x40" Aqua-oil painting on canvas w/wooden support frame. Painted by Mark Arminski in 2010, painting is a portrait of fellow Detroit, MI. artist Audrey Pongracz, who specializes in surreal and dream-like paintings that incorporate pop culture elements. Pongracz has shared studio space w/Arminski in the past, and she sat for him, setting the basics for this painting. Arminski noted Pongracz's penchant for interesting hats, so he depicted her wearing a cartoonish hat w/large "arm" sleeves draped over her shoulders. Pongracz also has a sizable shoe collection, which led Arminski to depict two toys he had in his studio (a fawn and a rabbit) as her conscience, one good, one evil. Hence the piece's title "Shoes-No Shoes," an argument personified by these two expressions of conscience. Additionally, Pongracz wears a necklace around her neck, a skeleton key (frequently seen in her work) placed over her heart, signifying the all-encompassing life force attributed to the heart. While Pongracz does have tattoos, the image seen on her arm is that of one of the dolls she makes. The painting's bkg., which features stars (matching those on her cheeks) and beams of light radiating from behind Pongracz also features paper w/some typographic imagery upon it, which shows through, adding some bkg. texture. Exc. Wonderful portrait that came about as the result of Pongracz being in the right place at the right time. From the Mark Arminski Archives and comes with a COA specially designed, signed and remarqued by him.
