Item Description
22x25" cardboard sign w/large image of a can of Crisco brand shortening, where the prominent New York City gay bar got its name from. Crisco Disco operated in the 1970s and into the 1980s. It was noted for having a DJ booth shaped like a can of Crisco and later for hedonistic activities including wanton sex and copious amounts of drugs. The drug scene at the club was so well-known, that musical group Blondie referred to it in their song "Rapture," w/the line "Flash Is Fast, Flash Is Cool" referring to a well-known cocaine and heroin dealer who hung out at the club. In addition to the "Crisco's Disco" name, sign features the New York City address at bottom. As both the spelling (the added "s" at the end) and the location noted were not the originals for the club, this sign is most likely for a short lived incarnation or just a fantasy creation. Corner tip wear w/some creasing and other scattered wear including a few small moisture stains at lower right and .75" area of surface paper lift at bottom left. Reflective silver areas of design have some surface scratches. Fine/VF.
