Item Description
c. mid-late 1920s. 14.5x16-5/8” art board has India ink art w/Uncle Sam gazing across farm field at looming “Coal Strike/Rail Strike” storm clouds w/text in clear sky above “Moratorium On Strikes, Big Crops, Business Boom, Optimism, Industrial Truce”. Bottom right margin has “McCutcheon” ink signature. Blank bottom margin trimmed a bit uneven, image area Exc. McCutcheon (1870-1949) is recognized as the “Dean of American Cartoonists”. He worked for the “Chicago Tribune” from 1903 to 1946, receiving the Pulitzer Prize in 1932. Superb ink work.
