Item Description
A matched pair of these portrait brooches showing the 1828 candidates Jackson & J.Q. Adams were recently sold by Heritage Auctions realizing $8,125.00. A matching Webster brooch is also known. This George Washington example has a highly domed glass with a beveled edge over a stippled engraving. The reverse has a T-bar pin. There is a tiny laser weld on the C clasp that holds the pinpoint and another where the pin shaft meets the T hinge. Both are close to invisible. Condition is otherwise outstanding with no scratches on the glass, no stain on the engraving and near 100% brass luster on the frame. Among the earliest known portrait pins for Washington. Rare.
