Item Description
15/16" ferrotype DeWitt 1860-35 which is a variety of DeWitt 1860-34 with this frame having no period after Johnson and no stem on the olive branch to the left of the "1860" date on the Johnson side. This piece is Gem Mint except for a tiny 1/16" hairline emulsion scratch on the background to the right of Douglas' cheek. This tiny mark shows in certain angles of reflected light. Even so, a remarkable example with otherwise flawless emulsion and 100% brilliant brass luster. Sold in the 2013 auction of John Ford's campaign items by Stacks Bowers. Comes with Ford's notated tan envelope and also the plastic sleeve with Stacks Bowers Lot No. 10869.
