Item Description
This is the unlisted large version of the Hake #25 button in the 1.25" size. That button carries a 2004 Guide value of $5,900.00. This example in the 1.75" size is one of only three known to us. The last time we offered it back in Auction #177, it realized over $10,000.00. The button is without back paper, probably as issued as the maker name appears on the curl J.H. Shaw Co. Phila. Larger front text reads "Republican Candidates 1920." Captions at bottom of each oval photo read "For President Warren G. Harding/For Vice President Calvin Coolidge/For U.S. Senator Boies Penrose." Cello surface has typical very slight hairlines. The longest are four about .5" long with one crossing Harding's chest and one running vertically just to the left of his ear. These are mentioned for full accuracy but they do not impact the appearance of the button what so ever. The design is perfectly centered and has its original high gloss. In addition to being, likely, the most colorful Harding button from 1920 it also has the distinction of qualifying as among the very rarest. Julie Powell Collection.
