Item Description
The buttons are 2.5" and there were three different designs each produced in two color varieties for a total of six in the set. Missing from this group of five is the button that pictures Reagan same as the example included but with the red and blue colors reversed. The one other complete set we offered came from the Marshall Levin Collection as do these last five examples plus the artwork. We know from the artwork and Levin's notations on the previously sold set that only 2,000 were made of each color of the Reagan portrait button, only 2,000 were made of each color of the anti-Carter elephant/peanut cartoon button, and only 1,500 made of each of the "Detroit 1980 Republican Convention" buttons. The five buttons here are all Mint as made. The original art consists of a 9x14" stiff sheet of illustration board which has a taped on transparent paper overlay which includes production notes. The overlay has numerous creases and small edge tears. The board itself has a few smudges as it was used for production. Above the notations are plastic overlay and paper paste-ups along with registration marks. Quantities to be produced are written in pencil along the bottom margin beneath each of the three designs. We don't know the significance but the name "Alvin Clayman" is inked on the reverse of the board. Scarce buttons and unique art. From the Marshall Levin Collection. Comes with Hake's COA.
