Item Description
First is a 2-1/8" button with text "NBC News/TWA Flight 847/June 14, 1985." This button was issued apparently to commemorate the television coverage of this event which began as date on the button reflects when a Trans World Airline flight was hijacked by members of Hezbollah and Islamic Jihad after it took off from Cairo. The flight was in route from Athens to Rome and scheduled to terminate in London. The hijackers sought the release of 700 Shi'ite Muslims from Israeli custody. The passengers and crew endured a three-day intercontinental ordeal. Additional passengers were held hostage over the next two weeks until some of the captors demands were met. Button is NM and displays Mint. Second is a beautifully designed large 4" button promoting New York with the rim text "New York, New York...It's A Wonderful World!" Illustrated beautifully are iconic New York City skyline buildings which include Citicorp Center at the left which opened in 1977, followed to the right by the Chrysler Building and followed on the far right by the Empire State Building with the World Trade Center Twin Towers in the center background standing tallest. Button is c.1980. Only example we've seen. Mint as made. Both from the Marshall Levin Collection and come with Hake's COA.
