Item Description
9" tall painted cast iron. This is second of three versions of Mickey Mouse cast iron banks made in France in the mid-1930s. The first version was only marked "Depose" on the back, this version is boldly stamped on back of ears "License" and "Exclusive." Underside of feet has raised "Walt Disney" name and "J. Manil Vivier Au Court" text, indicating this item was produced in Vivier-au-Court in the Ardennes in northern France. There is a cap nut on the back holding the two halves together and this is removed in order to retrieve the coins. Coin slot is on top back edge of his head. Including this example, we are aware of only four of this version in existence. Paint on face and hands has darkened but this is typical of the other originals we've seen. Scattered paint wear, largely on tip of nose, tips of shoes and seat of pants. Fine overall. Rare and first we've offered in our 47 years. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
