Item Description
10.75x14.5x2" thick leather-bound "Our Guests" hardcover register book for "Bank Of America - Main Street, Disneyland." This Bank of America Guest Register was signed/autographed by Walt Disney himself on May 30, 1966, one of his final public appearances at Disneyland. The Bank of America (BOA) sponsored Disneyland's newest attraction, "It's A Small World," which had been a spectacular success at the 1964 New York World's Fair. Disney arranged to have the attraction brought to Disneyland at the Fair's conclusion. To commemorate this grand occasion, the managers at the BOA commissioned this elaborate leather-bound, gilt-edged Guest Register to record the signatures of the VIPs and honored guests that visited the branch in the years to come. Soon after starting this guest register in 1966, BOA branch employees accented the signed pages w/photographs depicting the "It's A Small World" opening day events, including photo image of Walt Disney on a Disneyland ride w/Chairman of Bank of America Louis Lundborg and Lundborg's grandson. As time passed, celebrities were also noted by the placing of a colored foil star sticker. At the dedication of the "It's A Small World" attraction, Walt Disney and Lillian Disney signed together (Lillian signing "Lilly") in black felt tip pen on one of the first pages. Walt's bold signature measures 6.5" wide. Rarely has such a magnificent pair of signatures of both Walt and Lillian Disney been offered for public sale, let alone on an item so closely tied to Disneyland. On the opposite page, Lundborg and his wife have signed in tribute to this great day. Former BOA executive Rudolph Petersen has also signed, and inscribed a note recalling the bank's commitment to Walt Disney over the years. Also included is the inscription of Joseph Rosenberg, the loan officer responsible for funding both "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs" and the loans for Disneyland's original construction. Over the next three decades, the Town Square bank branch would use this magnificent treasure to record the VIP visits of hundreds of BOA executives and celebrities who would be guests of the bank at Disneyland. BOA founder Amadeo Giannini's family are prominently represented within these pages. Claire Giannini Hoffman writes a remarkable tribute to the relationship between her father (Amadeo Giannini), Walt Disney, and the BOA. Other members of the family who signed include Giannini's grandchildren. Other signatures of note include - 1960s supermodel Twiggy, "Munsters" actress Yvonne DeCarlo, Disney's daughter Diane Disney Miller, Disneyland's original costumed Mickey Mouse Paul Castle, "Lost In Space" stars Angela Cartwright and Billy Mumy, Cher (of Sonny & Cher, early in her career and signing as "Cher Bono"), "The Wild Wild West" star Ross Martin, Walt Disney's sister-in-law Edna Disney (who signed as "Mr. & Mrs. Roy O. Disney"), The Osmonds (Alan, Wayne, Merrill, Jay and Donny) as well as actor Kurt Russell who all attended the Grand Opening for Disneyland's Haunted Mansion, Abe Goldstein (Korkey the Keystone Kop), Red Skelton, World Bantamweight Champion boxer Abe Goldstein, Barbra Streisand and her then-husband Elliott Gould, Disneyland's 100 Millionth Guest, comedian Avery Schreiber, Lionel Hampton, Kenny Loggins, "Little House On The Prairie" actress Karen Grassle, Olympian Janet Evans, LA Dodgers pitcher Orel Hersheiser, Mick Jagger's then-wife Jerry Hall and many others. Book contains over 2,150 signatures spanning over 60 pages and four decades. These pages speak volumes about the men and women from the Bank of America who maintained such a strong relationship w/Walt Disney and Disneyland through the years. The Guest Register is nicely preserved, w/some separation to the inside cover page and scattered cover corner tip/spine wear; a suitable candidate for archival preservation; but an incredible find under any circumstance. Fine/VF overall. Comes w/two photo prints, one of the Lundborg Family w/Walt Disney at Disneyland on the day he signed this Guest Register and the other showing Walt giving speech at the opening ceremony for the popular "It's A Small World" attraction. A once-in-a-lifetime collection of signatures, a worthy candidate for the most discriminating Walt Disney and Disneyland collector, museum or archive. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
