Item Description
First are two 1-3/8" litho buttons each reading "Papoon For President" and one reading "Guaranteed Annual Year" and the other "Not Insane." The first has a very slight rub mark on the lower edge. This group became famous for their brand of surrealist humor best known through their record albums in the late 1960s and early 1970s. These buttons promote the groups sixth album on Columbia Records released in 1972 with a reference to their fictional choice for President George Papoon. John Lennon, during his famous 'Nutopia' press conference was photographed wearing one of these "Not Insane!" buttons. With these is 2.25" button reading "Hullabaloo/Magazine Is Outasight." With this comes 2-5/8" paper circle covered in acetate but never made into a button. Same essential design but slogan is "Socks It To You" and curl name "Big Store NYC." The magazine was launched in 1967 and Dutch pop culture hero Jan Creamer became editor-in-chief in 1967. The publication was devoted to rock music and became Circus Magazine in 1969. The button is Mint and the unmade button paper is Mint as created. Marshall Levin Collection. Comes with COA.
