Item Description
This knife is among the rarest Buck Rogers items and to find it in unused and essentially Mint condition (with very minor qualifications) is remarkable. The knife is 3-1/16" long and holds a 1.5" long combination screw driver and bottle opener plus a 2.25" long knife blade marked at the base by maker "Camilus Cutlery Co./Camilus N.Y./U.S.A." Both the shape of the knife and the celluloid grips simulate Buck Rogers' rocketship with an interior scene of him at the controls. The same image is printed on each side. The color used on the grips of these was exceedingly susceptible to wear and of the four or five examples in colors of green, red or blue that we've had in five decades none come near the condition of this one. With the rocket pointing to the left there is just the tiniest loss of green color along the extreme upper edge to the right and on the bottom edge also to the right. While the slightest bit of color is gone we seriously doubt that it was ever there to begin with. The blades on this knife and the grips are in essentially flawless condition. The best example we've ever seen and for practical purposes Mint as issued. The knife dates from 1935 and was produced for store sales by Adolph Castor, although it was also used as a Buck Rogers radio premium from the show sponsor Cream Of Wheat. A modest opening bid.
