Item Description
28x36.5" frame contains elaborate hand-cut 3D serigraph display created by artist James Rizzi (1950-2011) for the July 4-19, 1997 Montreux Jazz Festival that took place in Montreux on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. Rizzi was the official artist for the festival that year. Display bkg. consists of regular serigraph created for the festival as well as added features that include hand-cut elements from the serigraph mounted to foamcore for a 3D display. These elements include the seven-member jazz cat band, the three female cat vocalists and the serigraph text and border. Additionally, Rizzi has added extensive and wonderful unique remarquing to this extremely limited artist's proof. Great patterns and designs have been added to border and bkg. serigraph has extensive additional art accents as well, making for a truly eye-catching display as professionally shadowboxed and framed. Lower left has been signed in black felt tip pen by Rizzi along w/"A/P" artist's proof mark and limited edition lettering/numbering I/L, indicating this is #9 of just 12 produced in this elaborate manner. Margin border has .5" tears at top center and along upper left, but as is, still displays Exc. Frame's backing has large original self-portrait sketch showing Rizzi w/bird on extended finger. This has been boldly signed "For John - Thanks!" w/additional "Jimmy Rizzi - 2001" signature/date under sketch image. .5" puncture to foamcore surface above sketch w/impression line across first letter of Rizzi's first name. From the collection of John Scher, legendary concert promoter, producer and manager and comes with COA signed by him.
